Poor Toby, it seems that his belly couldn't stand being the highlight of the day, maybe he must have thought that his big belly would attract The Belly Butcher, especially if he worked in a public place, or maybe he was another secret admirer and he got to work there in the hope of being noticed by The Butcher and giving him a death worthy of a potbelly guy.
I also like the detail of the shadow showing the handle of the knife, it looks so sexy that it is irresistible not to think about the entire blade stuck in his navel; I think his boss will have to hire another waiter just like Toby if he doesn't want to be the next one!
After Toby's fate was broadcast, every big-bellied waiter in town knew they were probably up next... would you be taking the day off or risking your guts by going in and showing off your big gut?
Reminds me of 10 years ago when I was 17 and working my first job at Burger King. I had a pretty big gut even back then. New management decided employees had to tuck in their shirts at all times. Made me fat little gut stuck out like a sore thumb. Had a couple of customers who were bold enough to comment on it and tell me I must really enjoy the food there. Made teenage me so ragingly horny. Now imagine if the butcher had stopped in for a bite to eat. My youthful pot belly would be an irresistible target. He would wait out by the dumpster for me to take out the trash, and then give me a fatal belly ache. I would moan in agony as my teenage beer gut is pierced by cold steel. The butcher would laugh “you kids get fat young these days!” And give my belly a little jiggle as I fade away
